UCLA To Consider Sexual Orientation in Application Process?

In recent UCLA admissions news the growing call for equity, access and openness has taken on quite a bit of publicity.  The Examiner writes:

Students are expressing their thoughts on either side of the debate. Students in favor of including the question in the UCLA application process feel it would help the university know how large a community of gay and lesbian students is actually part of the university.

Being accounted for in the stats of the school might enable them to be included in marketing campaigns, new programs in the future, and more importantly, be recognized as an important part of the school community.
